The Journey Begins! $50 to $10,000!

Today begins the journey of taking $50 and turning into $10,000 playing poker.

The majority of my play will be done online at WSOP.com.

I’ll be chronicling the entire journey by posting summaries of each session I play and following them up with a weekly review where I’ll break down my numbers and review the week’s results.

I’ll also be using this journal as a place for study where I analyze my play and break down various strategies as I attempt to move up the ranks.

Tracking My Play:

This will be done using three things:
1. I’ll be posting session results on this blog.
2. I’ll be using a custom spreadsheet to track sessions and manage payouts. (shown below)
3. I’ll be using Poker Bankroll Tracker on my phone.

Bankroll Guidelines:

Since I’m starting with $50, bankroll management will be somewhat non-existent for the beginning of the challenge. I’ll be starting at 5c/10c cash games and working in tournaments upon breaking $100. If I lose the initial $50, I’ll simply reload and start again. As a general rule, I’ll be aiming for 20 buy-ins for cash games while working in 1 or 2 tournaments per day that do not exceed one cash game buy-in. Essentially, I’ll be using my cash game profits to fund my tournament play.

As I move up in stakes, the bankroll requirements will grow. For example, I’ll be looking to have 40+ buy-ins for 50NL, 50+ buy-ins for 100NL, 60+ buy-ins for 200NL, and so on.

Session Guidelines:

I’ll be attempting to plan and execute my sessions on a strict weekly schedule. Monday will be used for constructing my Weekly Review post and Tues-Sun will be days where I play. My sessions will start no later than 1pm, as this is when the tournaments I’m planning to work into my schedule begin.

Play will be done on no more than 6 tables at a time, but the majority of my play will likely be on 4 tables and occasionally 1 or 2 tables only.

That’s all I got for today. Time to get to work.
